Mr. Walden is an Honors
graduate of the Hospital Corpsman School,
and became certified as an Orthopaedic Physician's
Assistant in 1979.
Resume
H. Deak Walden was born
and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina and
graduated from New Hanover High School in
1968. As a youth, he was active in Boy Scouts
of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout
and earning the prestigious God and Country
Award.
From 1968-1970 he attended
Cape Fear Technical Institute in the Marine
Technology Program. During this time Mr. Walden
volunteered with a local rescue squad, which
confirmed a passion for medicine. Mr. Walden
joined the US Navy in 1970, and after graduating
with Honor and Distinction from Hospital Corpsman
School, he was admitted to the Orthopaedic
Physician's Assistants Program.
In
1973 he joined the Wilmington Orthopaedic
Group where he has been a valuable member
of the staff for thirty years.
In 1979 Mr. Walden became
certified as an Orthopaedic Physician's Assistant
by the National Board for Certification of
Orthopaedic Physician's Assistants. Subsequently,
he has been very active in the American Society
of Orthopaedic Physician's Assistants in a
number of positions including the presidency.
Currently he is Parliamentarian for the National
Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Physician's
Assistants.
Mr. Walden has been honored
on numerous occasions, among them being
- Award of
Recognition for service to The American
Society of Orthopaedic Physician's Assistants
as Parliamentarian, 1981-1983,1985-1987.
- Award of
Recognition for service to the American
Society of Orthopaedic Physician's Assistants
as President, 1995-1997
- Award of
Recognition for service to the Ogden Rescue
Squad, 1970
- Award of
Recognition for service to the National
Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Physician's
Assistants as Parliamentarian.
- Award of
Recognition for service to the American
Society of Orthopaedic Physician's Assistants
as Past President, 1997-1999.
Also of note is that he
designed and developed a functional metacarpal
fracture brace with which he has successfully
treated over a thousand patients in the Wilmington
area. He has given several lectures on brace
construction at national meetings. Mr. Walden's
brace design has been incorporated into the
treatment regimen of many health care providers
nationwide.
Mr. Walden is very active
in his church, serving and chairing many committees,
including the Board of Deacons. He has been
on a medical mission trip to the mountains
of the Dominican Republic, where he had the
opportunity to help people who had not previously
had regular health care and enjoyed the challenge
of adapting his medical expertise to a third
world environment.
With his training and over
thirty years of practical experience in orthopaedics
while working with numerous orthopaedic surgeons,
Mr. Walden is particularly well positioned
