About Apfelbaum Odontoid Instruments (Prod 10084)
Apfelbaum Odontoid Instruments are designed for anterior odontoid and posterior transarticular C1-C2 fixation. The Apfelbaum Odontoid Instrument System provides an excellent alternative to the traditional external fixation methods used for the treatment of Type II Odontoid fractures. The advantage of the Apfelbaum technique lies in the full preservation of C1-C2 motion through minimal surgical trauma. A specialized retractor system reduces the approach to a small working canal through which instruments can safely be inserted and directed to the target area via a unique system of guide tubes. The guide tube system is fixed to the surface of the C3 vertebrae by gentle impaction of spikes into the vertebrae, thereby making it easier for the surgeon to manipulate the C1-C2 relationship prior to achieving final fixation.
