About Operation Walk - Women Orthopaedist Global Outreach

Women Orthopaedist Global Outreach (WOGO) is a 501 c 3 not-for-profit volunteer medical service organization led by five fellowship-trained female orthopaedic surgeons. As a team of Operation Walk, we are dedicated to providing free surgical treatments for patients in developing countries that have no access to life-improving care for arthritis or other debilitating bone and joint conditions. We have seen first hand the power of joint reconstruction surgery to transform the lives of those who suffer from arthritis, the most disabling chronic disease in the world. We seek to help those living with arthritis and disability in under-served global communities where survival and income is almost entirely dependent on manual labor. Our inaugural outreach trip to Kathmandu, Nepal, where the need is overwhelming, will take place from September 24 - October 1, 2010: •Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. •Most Nepalese live on less than $1 (U.S.) per day. •86% of the population lives in rural areas. •81% of the population derives their livelihood from agriculture. •85% of the population does not have access to general healthcare or orthopaedic care. The WOGO team provides care for anyone in need, but have a special passion for treating women who suffer more frequently from arthritis and experience severe pain and disability.
