The reuseable instrument and preliminary surgery plan are provided to the surgeon for each procedure. The surgeon can then adjust the goal of cup orientation as needed either before or even during surgery.
The surgeon then logs on, downloads the plan, opens on the computer in the OR, and adjusts the plan as needed. The sterile hipsextant instrument is then adjusted for that patient. Once the three legs of the instrument dock onto the pelvis, a direction indicator points in the direction that the surgeon has designated as the desired orientation of the artificial cup.
The HipXpert (formerly the HipSextant Patient-Specific Mechanical Navigation System) has received 510K clearance from the FDA for navigation of any acetabular component. The system also has CE mark.
