About Zimmer Multi-Radius Total Knee System (Implant 210212)

Early total knee prosthesis implanted 35+ years ago (circa 1986).  The medial and lateral rail dishes were thought to strengthen the polyethylene in the monoblock CoCr tibial implant.  It was also available in carbon-fiber polyethylene, which was thought to strengthen the polyethylene but also created "black knees" from metal debris.

The accompanying brochure (See link to the right.) was printed in 1979, which predates this prosthesis to before the IB (insall Burstein) and MG (Miller Galante) knee systems.
