Identified as a Zickel Nail by Stephen Butterworth, Smith & Nephew representative from the Brisbane area, Australia. Mr. Butterworth's comments on extraction are as follows:
"Zickel Nail - set screw up top - not a lag screw, but a lag rod, so needs backslapping". He also indicated that a Winquist system would provide the instruments needed to explant it.
Dr. Madhu Pandey, an orthopaedic surgeon at the Bhaktapur Hospital commented as follows::
"Proximal Femoral A2" nail. Used widely in Asia. Currenly referred to by the name PFNA2.
He says that in older days it was called a "Gamma Nail" or a "Cefalomedullary Nail."
