The antibacterial properties of chitosan have been investigated using an in vitro methodology in which the antibacterial activities of chitosan were measured against a wider range of bacterial. Results demonstrate that chitosan increased permeability on the inner and outer membranes and ultimately disrupted the bacterial cell membranes, releasing their contents. HemCon hemostatic dressings offer an antibacterial barrier against a wide range of gram positive and gram negative organisms.
