The ACT is strictly autologous and the cells produce their own matrix.
The chondrocyte transplantation includes removal of the cartilage tissue within an arthroscopic surgery. Chondrocytes are isolated from this tissue sample and cultivated under sterile conditions in the highly specialized cell culture laboratories of co.don® AG. In case of the classical ACT, an autologous periosteal flap is taken and sutured watertight over the defect. The cultured autologous chondrocytes are then injected into the forming hollow space.
