FMwand system is based upon the principle of ferromagnetic heating. The FMwand Generator efficiently delivers a high frequency electrical current to the surgical handpiece, producing a rapidly alternating magnetic field in the ferromagnetic alloy-plated loop tip. The alternating electrical current completes its return to ground back through the handpiece and generator. No grounding pad is necessary, and no electrical current passes through the patient.
The result is a precise thermal surgical device that delivers a consistent hemostatic effect while incising tissue with low drag, producing uniform margins with minimal depth of tissue damage. This precise control of thermal energy reduces the risk of damage to adjacent structures, and may reduce the likelihood of high-risk and potentially costly surgical complications.
