The Lateral Malleolar Plate was developed to fulfill a need when dealing with difficult fibula fractures in the elderly where the bone is osteoporotic or the fracture lines run vertically and there is avulsion fragments from the ligamentous attachments not amenable to standard means of internal fixation.
