  • Identified by Dr. Dan Segina, Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Holmes Regional Trauma Center who believes that it is a Smith & Nephew TriGen retrograde femoral nail.
  • Identification as a TriGen nail confirmed by Dr. Laurence Dahners, Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedics, UNC School of Medicine
  • Identificaton further confirmed by Remco Abspoel who did further research after submitting the nail as unidentified.

Removal Tips
  • The interlocking screws have a central thread for capturing the screwdriver.
  • If it has an end cap, it needs to be removed before trying to remove the nail.  A solid locking screw screw driver should remove it.
  • Although the screws are inserted with a cannulated screwdriver, that should not be used to remove those screws as cannulated screwdrivers are apt to break during the removal process.
